BYU Men’s, Women’s choruses to perform together

The BYU Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform together Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center.

The shows are intended to celebrate the Nov. 5 release of a new album by the Women’s Chorus, titled “My God is a Rock: Hymns and Spirituals.”

“We needed a new idea for a new (album), and we came across this wonderful spiritual ‘My God is a Rock,’ and when (the Women’s Chorus) sang it was just an incredibly powerful experience,” said Jean Applonie, conductor of the Women’s Chorus. “I thought it would be a great title track for our CD.”

The Women’s Chorus will be performing selections from the new album along with several other pieces such as “Behold the Wounds in Jesus’ Hands” by David Naylor and “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,” as arranged by Mack Wilberg.

The Men’s Chorus will be performing “The Iron Rod” by William Clayton and “O Sing to the Lord” by Dan Davison, among other pieces.

“(The Men’s and Women’s choruses) always do a fall concert together,” Applonie said. “It’s a great opportunity for audiences to gather to see them both in one concert.”

The Men’s Chorus released their album titled “Set Apart” in April. It is available for free download at setapartalbum.com.

Tickets can be purchased by calling or visiting the Fine Arts Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or by visiting byuarts.com/tickets. Prices are $10 for the general public, $9 for senior citizens and alumni and $6 for both students and BYU employees.
